Bayern Munich starlet Ryan Gravenberch only available player in Kopa Trophy top ten to miss World Cu

Netherlands international Ryan Gravenberch will be the only fit player in the Kopa Trophy top ten to miss the World Cup.

The Bayern Munich youngster was a shock omission from the Oranje squad as Louis van Gaal announced the list of players he's taking to Qatar.

At just 20-years-old, midfielder Gravenberch is one of football's most exciting young prospects, having shined at Ajax before sealing a move to Bayern in the summer.

However, he will not be playing at this winter's World Cup in Qatar after being left out of the Netherlands squad for the upcoming tournament.

Such an omission means that he is the only fit player from an exclusive list of young talent that will remain at home for the competition.

Gravenberch came joint-sixth alongside Josko Gvardiol in this year's Kopa Trophy, which is an award named after former French footballer Raymond Kopa given to the best performer aged 21 or younger.

It is similar to the Golden Boy accolade, although this time former Ballon d'Or winners select the player, and the recipient can be from outside of European clubs.

First launched in 2018, previous champions have been Kylian Mbappe, Matthijs de Ligt and Pedri, with Spain wonderkid Gavi collecting the trophy for 2022.

The Barcelona ace beat Eduardo Camavinga and Jamal Musiala to the award, which was announced on the same evening of the Ballon d'Or presentation.

German youngster Florian Wirtz, who finished tenth on this year's list, will also miss the World Cup, but he has been unfit for months due to an ACL injury he suffered back in March.

Two of England's finest young talents in Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka came fourth and eighth respectively, with the duo being selected by Gareth Southgate to play for the Three Lions in Qatar.

Paris Saint-Germain's Nuno Mendes finished fifth in the rankings, with Karim Adeyemi coming ninth.

Van Gaal raised some eyebrows with his World Cup selection, with Gravenberch's omission not the only surprise.

In-form Newcastle defender Sven Botman was also left out despite starring at centre-back for the Magpies this season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham striker flop Vincent Janssen was included.

The 28-year-old currently plays in the Belgian top flight with Royal Antwerp, having joined them in the summer after three seasons at Mexican outfit Monterrey, and he's impressed with eight goals and three assists in 16 league appearances.
